Every September for the past 30 years, Walt Disney World opens its doors to Christian music in an event known as Night of Joy. In 2009, Al was asked to be the lead partner in the event, contributing strategically and creatively. He plays a large role in creating a successful line-up of top artists. In the past few years, names have included Grammy winner TobyMac, Need to Breathe, Skillet, MercyMe, Casting Crowns and pretty much everyone else you have heard on the radio.
Al created a new addition to Night of Joy: the Talent Spotlight. The Talent Spotlight Stage allows new and young bands the chance to perform at a huge event like Night of Joy. Winners are selected by a panel of industry leaders and Disney executives from a talented array of bands and singers who audition during the summer. This is a one of a kind experience for those who are selected. In fact the Talent Spotlight stage last year was jam-packed throughout both nights, as friends, family and new fans all came out to support new artists.
The event has already grown since Al’s involvement, from one to two nights of music. It is a dream of Al’s to see a whole week of activities and feeder events leading to Night of Joy. With the Experience conferences taking off, that goal is well on its way to becoming a reality.
